Guided Tour With Captioned Narration
This Westchester County, NY home was ready for an expanded kitchen, and rear entrance to accommodate the growing residents. The new kitchen is the centerpiece of the renovation, and the mudroom entrance and family room media center complete a 3 room transformation. As with any major renovation this was a complex one. The beam running down the right side of center in this picture and right through the stove hood is structural. Rather than having a single large beam running through the center of the kitchen our designer added a matching aesthetic beam to the left and used it to create decorative and lighting pockets with detailed molding. It also provided the perfect way to balance the placement of the stove area custom wood hood. Note how the 48" stove with 2 ovens is centered on the two beams. Suddenly the ceiling comes alive and adds an elegant touch to this beautiful kitchen.
The kitchen flows into the family room to the right and mudroom (back left). The design took all 3 rooms into consideration. The porcelain tile floor, designed to look like wood, as well as cabinetry and moulding choices tie all three rooms together. Kitchen Classics works well beyond the kitchen. We do mudroom entrances and amenities, bookcases, libraries, bars, laundry room amenities, entertainment centers and more! Having one contractor for so many different rooms and specific finishing projects really makes it easier on the homeowner.
The large farmhouse sink sits below a decorative arched valence that echoes the entrance to the family room which can be seen in the window reflection. Glass cabinets without mullions flank the valence, glass shelves create a very low profile within these lighted cabinets. The sink is especially wide with one and a half compartments. A double trash pullout to the left and dishwasher to the right are seamlessly integrated into the cabinets. Notice the lack of wall outlets and switches on the backsplash. The cabinets have electrical strips running underneath them that appliances plug into which makes for a much cleaner look. These are all frameless cabinets and drawers for maximum room, but they have the beaded inset look of a framed cabinet - it is an elegant look and the owners appreciate all the cabinet room.
The center island makes a strong design statement. A lighter Walnut stain, corner posts, detailed moulding, raised panel doors, and a marble countertop expertly crafted to look 3" thick all come together to create the island. The microwave drawer is integrated into the island and the amount of storage space on 3 sides of the island is really appreciated by the client.
This custom hutch matches the color of the center island while providing a very significant amount of storage as well as display options. Glass doors are both aesthetic as well as functional - allowing guests to quickly locate glasses. Hutches can still have a central place in a kitchen design given how useful they are, and Kitchen Classics is skilled at both designing and installing kitchen hutches.
This family room shines with two new cabinet installations - an entertainment center surround and an enclosed glass liquor cabinet. Celing moulding brings the two elements together as does their connection to hutch and center island in the adjoining kitchen. This is a multi-room unified design with identical colors, matched cabinet styles, moulding themes and identical cabinet hardware.
This arch joining the kitchen and family room is reflected in the kitchen sink window valence across the way. Beyond the island to the left the refrigerator is seamless, hidden behind the cabinet-matching raised panel door. Notice the moulding treatments on the end of the cabinets to the right - elegant and thoughtful.
The home's rear door opens into the new mudroom. Each child has a "locker" all of which have doors that when closed can quickly bring visual order to a mess. Cabinets below can store shoes and more. Decorative glass doors above offer additional display space. Mudroom cabinetry can really help organize the family while hiding clutter, shoes, winter jackets and more. Kitchen Classics designs and installs mud room cabinetry and offers custom millwork services to build mudroom seating benches and other mudroom amenities.
